MAHPERD Conference

I just returned from attending and presenting at the Michigan Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MAHPERD) annual state conference in Traverse City, Michigan.  I was impressed at how well-organized the event was, and the variety of sessions offered.

My presentation was focused on career options for individuals with physical education and health degrees.  We also talked about potential professional certifications to consider and resources for job location.  Graduate school, networking, memberships, and conference attendance were also topics we covered at length.  I was surprised to find out that not only students attended, but professionals who were interested in looking at other career options.

Overall, I found this conference to be organized with a very active membership of both students and professionals.  The sessions were high energy. What I especially liked were the meetings dedicated to advocacy related to health, well-being, and physical education.  I also enjoyed the opportunity to meet leaders beyond just the state association – those working at the national level.

MAHPERD is already calling for presentations for next year’s conference, which will be November 14-16, 2013 in Lansing, Michigan.
