The American College of Sports Medicine has announced that pre-participation physical activity screening recommendations are being updated. Information has been made available through the membership publication Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, but can be found at this Updated ACSM Recommendations link starting November 16th, 2015.
These changes will also be included in the tenth edition of ACSM’s Guidelines For Exercise Testing and Prescription (GETP) and the fifth edition of ACSM’s Resources for the Personal Trainer both scheduled for publication in March, 2017. These changes to related ACSM certifications and exams will be effective for certification exams starting in June of 2017.
The ACSM has provided these additional resources to learn more about changes and what they mean for professionals:
- Roundtable Consensus Statement published in the November 2015 issue of MSSE
- Frequently Asked Questions about the preparticipation health screening changes
- PowerPoint presentation developed by the Roundtable Consensus Statement Authors
A free webinar is being offered regarding these updates. You can register online for the January, 2016 informational webinar.
