The American Council on Exercise has just introduced two new specialty certifications that focus on Youth Fitness and Fitness Nutrition.
Fitness Nutrition Specialist: This certification is aimed towards professionals who would like the expertise to provide scientifically supported, practical and relevant nutrition advice to clients while staying within their scope of practice. Studying for this certification, you will learn how to communicate food selection and preparation, how to teach clients to read nutrition labels and choose meals that facilitate weight loss, improve their athletic performance and meet special dietary needs.
Youth Fitness Specialist: This certification is aimed towards developing the knowledge and skills necessary to customize fitness programs for children and teens. The curriculum, which could also help youth sports coaches, parents and professionals in health care or recreation, covers motor development, pediatric exercise physiology, growth-related differences in abilities, resistance and cardiorespiratory training, and integration of health-and skill-related activities into fitness programs.
For currently certified health and fitness professionals, the Fitness Nutrition and Youth Fitness Specialty Certifications are each equivalent to 2.5 ACE CECs, 2.50 ACSM CECs, or 25 hours of professional education.
Please note that specialty certifications are intended to complement the education you already have. More information can be found at www.acefitness.org
