I am looking forward to a week off of work later this month and am planning to do a lot of reading. I thought this would be a good time to look back at some of my favorites that I read in 2012. This list could get really long, but I’m going to keep it to some of my favorites. You can find my reading list on my LinkedIn Profile. I usually read about 10 books during the stretch from December 23-January 3 each year. (If I don’t read, I don’t have anything to write about!) I would read more, but the only time I have each day is the hour (usually less) that I can keep my eyes open after I put my kids to bed.
So, if you are fortunate enough to have the time to read, here are some books that I found valuable that I read in 2012:
- Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness
- SPARK: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain
- What to Eat
- Language Intelligence: Lessons on Persuasion from Jesus, Shakespeare, Lincoln, and Lady Gaga
- The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything
- Teach Your Children Well
- The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You (read a long time ago, but referenced many times in 2012)
- Within Our Reach: Solving the Mental Health Crisis
- The Elements of Mentoring
- The Blood Sugar Solution
- Triathlon 101 (read a LONG time ago, referenced regularly in 2012)
- The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
- Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less From Each Other
Update as of 12/21/12
I just visited my LinkedIn profile to add a few more books to my reading list. I guess they decided to remove this feature. Thanks for the notice LinkedIn. I had over a 100 books listed there, and hadn’t written the information anywhere else. Great.
I enjoyed The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. I would recommend The Creative Destruction of Medicine by Eric Topol
Thank you for the recommendation, I am always looking for my next book to read!
