So, the mayor of New York is taking some heat for his soda ban. I guess there are some people who have a problem with this. I can understand that people don’t want government dictating what they can or cannot consume. Except for harmful drugs. Oh yeah, and medications. Don’t forget about tobacco, and….
But I have to wonder, what about that pesky group known as the Food and Drug Administration? What’s their deal? How do they feel about a soda ban? Isn’t this more along the lines of their job? Their website headline says “Protecting and Promoting YOUR Health”. My question is this: What were they thinking when they approved soft drinks in the first place? As far as I can tell from the ingredient list, there isn’t any actual food in there anyway. I wonder if there might be an outside, multi-billion dollar industry putting some pressure on them?
If this non-food were never approved in the first place, we wouldn’t have to be getting it out of schools, or trying to control the amount of the addicting-sugary substance people are consuming in the first place. It’s too bad the average consumer who is mad about their “right being infringed upon” doesn’t realize the Big Food Machine is duping them into a cycle of addiction.
